To Be Determined
by
Joachim Lépine M. Ed., C. Tr.
Joachim (Joe) was born into a French-speaking family in Belgium and grew up in the U.S.A. before moving to Quebec in 2006.  When he took his first translation course-on a whim-he knew he had found his calling.

He went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in translation and a master’s degree in education.  In the ensuing years, he translated for a myriad of prestigious clients in Quebec and abroad.
To share his passion for the craft, over the past 15 years, Joe has taught French-into-English translation and related courses at Université de Sherbrooke and trained for NATO, the United Nations, the European Commission, OTTIAQ, Magistrad, Editors Canada, the Translation Bureau, ITI (UK), Training for Translators (USA), and many others.
Today he is the cofounder of LION Translation Academy, which offers training to help translators and translation teams to thrive in every area of their practice.

AI Tech: You’re in the Driver’s Seat!
Postediting is nothing short of a paradigm shift—and it can be overwhelming!
This workshop will update you on where AI tech stands in 2024 before examining the three pivots of translators who successfully transition to NMT postediting as part of their routine workflow.
We’ll unpack three critical pivots: from “factory model” to “tailoring,” from “back seat” to“driver’s seat,” and from “clash of interests” to “sharing the road.”
As we will see, translation is still translation, and even if our tools are evolving, we remain in the driver’s seat.

AGM Proxy Form 2025

CERTIFIED MEMBERS:

If you will not be attending the Annual General Meeting, please complete this Proxy Form.  According to the Association’s by-laws, twelve (12) voting members in good standing are required to establish a quorum at any annual or special meeting, and written proxies count toward that quorum under Article 11.3.1.

Your nominee(s) will represent you at the Association of Translators and Interpreters of Alberta’s AGM, held in person and online on Saturday, November 1, 2025, and will have full authority to vote on all matters properly brought before the meeting.

When appointing your proxy, you may select an ATIA Council Member from the dropdown choices above; all listed Council Members have confirmed their attendance at the AGM. Alternatively, you may choose another ATIA Certified Member using the option below, just be sure they will attend the meeting, or your proxy will not count toward the quorum. Please note: Allison Downer is not a member of ATIA and therefore cannot vote.

Please complete this form and submit by end of day October 17, 2025.

Thank you
