ATIA is pleased to announce that you can now register for the Fall 2023 Online Associate level Translation Exam.

Mandatory Prerequisites:

• Pass the Code of Ethics Examination – within the past 2 years
• Pass the English Proficiency Examination – within the past 2 years

Note:  You MUST register for the same language combination that you confirmed prior to writing the English Proficiency Examination.

Registration:

• • Full refunds will be granted for cancellation of registration only if the Examination Coordinator is informed of the decision by e-mail within 10 days of the exam date. After that time no refund will be issued.
  • Examinations: Refunds (less a $25 administration fee) will only be given to those candidates who miss the examination due to medical reasons, provided a doctor’s note is submitted to the examinations coordinator at least 24 hours prior to, or within two weeks following the exam. Refunds will not be given for any other reason. Alternate arrangements to write the exam cannot be made.
  • Registration Fees cannot be applied to other ATIA events or examinations and cannot be carried forward to future examinations. If you register for this exam without the pre-requisites you will receive a refund less a $25 administration fee.
  • The Translation exam is 2 hours long BUT you must allow 2 hours and 45 minutes (9:15 am – 12:00 pm) on test day.
  • The translation exam is offered online through the Mettl platform.
  • NOTE:  Following Registration and eight days prior to the exam date you will receive by email:
    • • Exam rules and instructions
      • Rules and disclaimer form to be signed and returned
      • Form to list the hard-copy dictionary/reference material you will have on exam day
      • A practice test invite – to familiarize registrants with the Mettl exam platform
      • A PowerPoint presentation to review the technical features of the Mettl online exam platform

All candidates MUST attend the online “Mandatory Information Session”  August 14, 2023 to be eligible to register and write the prerequisite exams detailed below.

Here are the details of the prerequisite exams to be held online October 14, 2023:

• • Code of Ethics Exam (Translators/Interpreters ($45)
    • Case Study and multiple choice questions. Test time:  60 minutes
  • English Proficiency Exam for Translators ($45)
    • Candidates writing into English must pass an Editing test; candidates writing from English must pass a Reading-comprehension test (so you can only register for one language combination at a time).  Editing test time:  90 minutes – Reading-comprehension test time:  60 minutes
  • Reading Comprehension for Interpreters Exam ($45)
    • Tests the candidates reading-comprehension in English.  Multiple choice questions related to short reading selections.  Test time:  90 minutes

The package you receive after attending the information session will assist you to determine which exams are for you!

  • You must be either a Canadian Citizen and resident of Alberta or a Permanent Resident of Canada and reside in Alberta.  Photo ID is required for entry into the exams.
