Aida’s Bio:
Experienced English – Russian Translator and Associate Member of the Association of Translators and Interpreters of Alberta (ATIA) with over 10 years of progressive experience in interpretation and translation. Licensed Community Interpreter Trainer (TCIT) who has successfully trained and mentored over 100 professional interpreters and translators since 2020, and has provided instruction on a range of essential topics, including preparation for the interpreter proficiency test, community interpreter ethics and protocols, basic translation techniques, formatting, editing, proofreading, and an introduction to CAT tools.
This workshop is primarily designed for novice translators who are looking to deepen their understanding of the dos and don’ts of legal translation. It also offers valuable insights for experienced practitioners interested in refining their approach or refreshing their knowledge.

ATIA Spring 2025 Online Associate level Translation Exam will be held on April 5, 2025.
Mandatory Prerequisites:
- Pass the Code of Ethics Exam – within the past 2 years
- Pass the English Proficiency Exam – within the past 2 years
- Candidates who passed both the editing, and the reading comprehension versions of the English proficiency exams, may attempt the translation exams for both combinations on the same day. Results for either language must be valid (within the past 2 years). MUST register for the same language combinations as confirmed prior to taking the English proficiency exams.
- ATIA members adding a language combination must have passed the English Proficiency Exam required for the language combination and direction being applied for.

- These webinars are not mandatory but highly recommended for all candidates taking the associate level translation exam!
Read ‘all’ of the following registration information:

- The Translation exam is 2 hours long BUT you must allow 2 hours and 45 minutes for this test.
- Registrants will translate one (1) text.
- Exam Time if taking from OTHER language into ENGLISH: 10:00 am – 12:00 pm (must allow 9:15 am – 12:00 pm).
- Exam Time if taking from ENGLISH into OTHER language: 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm (must allow 1:15 – 4:00 pm).
- Should you be eligible and opt to attempt the translation exam in the opposite direction as well, it will be necessary to set aside 2 hours and 45 minutes for both the pm and the am exams.
- The translation exam is offered online through the Mettl platform.
- NOTE: Following Registration and eight days prior to the exam date (March 28) you will receive by email:

- Rules and disclaimer form to be signed and returned
- Form to list the hard-copy dictionary/reference material you will have on exam day
- A Mettl platform technical practice test invite – to familiarize registrants with the Mettl exam platform only
- A PowerPoint presentation to review the technical features of the Mettl online exam platform
- Full refunds will be granted for cancellation of registration only if the Exam Coordinator is informed of the decision by e-mail within 10 days of the exam date. After that time no refund will be issued.
- Examinations: Refunds (less a $25 administration fee) will only be given to those candidates who miss the exam due to medical reasons, provided a doctor’s note is submitted to the exams coordinator at least 24 hours prior to, or within two weeks following the exam. Refunds will not be given for any other reason. Alternate arrangements to write the exam cannot be made.
- Registration Fees cannot be applied to other ATIA events or exams and cannot be carried forward to future exams. If you register for this exam without the pre-requisites you will receive a refund less a $25 administration fee.

Regina Landeck, M.A. is a certified translator for German to English and English to German. She is a member of ATIA and a corresponding member of ATA. Regina holds a law degree from Germany, a post-graduate diploma in adult education, and a master’s degree in translation. She taught legal translation in the online Translation Certificate Program at New York University for 10 years and continues to operate her own translation business, ProLingua Consulting. Regina teaches translation webinars and is also active as a mentor and tutor to new translators.
