All prospective candidates are required to attend the mandatory information session on 9 January 2010, at which time ATIA’s Bylaws and Code of Ethics will be reviewed, the profession of translation will be discussed, and the examination procedure will be described in detail.
Please read the detailed information carefully. If you have any questions, contact the Examinations Coordinator by leaving a message at 780-434-8384 (Edmonton and area), 1-888-434-2842 (toll free outside the Edmonton area) or through .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).
The Associate Level exam is administered in two sections:
Part A: Code of Ethics
Part B: English Proficiency
All candidates MUST attend (in person, no one else can come for you) one information session in order to be allowed to write the exam. If you cannot attend in the city closest to you (Calgary or Edmonton), you are expected to make arrangements to attend in the other location. If you cannot attend either of the dates, you must notify the Examinations Coordinator as soon as possible to make alternate arrangements. Candidates who do not attend an information session and have not received permission to be absent from the session will NOT be allowed to write the examination this year and will receive a $125 refund. Candidates receiving a refund will be eligible to re-register for next year’s exam.
Note: Your registration will be confirmed by e-mail. You will not receive further confirmation or reminders for the information session; it is the responsibility of each candidate to ensure his/her presence.
EXAMINATION CONFIRMATION AND DATE
Registration for the exam will be confirmed at the information session. Also, at this time, candidates will be given the date, time, and location of Section I of the Associate Level Examination.
EXAMINATION FEE: The fee for the examination and information session is $150, payable in advance. Payment of examination fee must accompany all registration forms.
REFUNDS
After attending the information session, a candidate may obtain a refund of $125, if he/she decides not to write the exam.
Half of the exam fee ($75) will be refunded to the candidate if he/she does not pass Section A of the Associate Level Exam.
A refund of $125 will only be given to those candidates who miss the exam due to medical reasons, if a doctor’s note is submitted to the examinations coordinator at least 24 hours prior to the exam. Refunds will not be given to those candidates who miss the exam because they forgot the date or place of the exam or did not attend for any other reason than the medical reason as stated above. Alternate arrangements to write the exam cannot be made.
If a suitable marker cannot be found for the particular language combination, the candidate is given a full refund.
