To become a certified conference interpreter with ATIA, a person must meet one of the following eligibility requirements:
- any person who has passed the appropriate interpretation examination set by the CTTIC
- is recognized as a simultaneous or consecutive interpreter by the federal government translation bureau in Ottawa
- is a member of the L’association internationale des interprètes de conference (AIIC)
- is a Certified Member (conference interpreter) in good standing of another association recognized by CTTIC and is eligible for admission to ATIA as a Certified Member
- is a member in good standing of another body acceptable to the association
- applicant must also prove that he has worked at least 200 days as a conference interpreter
In the case of conference interpretation between languages other than French and English, the applicant must prove that he has worked at least 50 days.
