
All associate and certified members are invited to attend a translation workshop led by Susan Ouriou in Calgary and Regina Landeck in Edmonton. This workshop will serve as preparation for the certifiication exam. The approach will be of interest to all translators interested in exploring the ways in which we translate.
Registrants will receive a text to be translated prior to the workshop that will help to illustrate the subsequent discussion revolving around translation approaches. During the workshop, one or two samples of previous exams will also be examined.

ATIA Academy offers professional development opportunities for beginning and more experienced translators. Course and seminar offers will change, so please check back frequently. For new translators and exam candidates we highly recommend: - An Introduction to Translation / Weekend Seminar: This intensive 2-day course offers insight into the theoretical background of translation - Tutorial: In this practical tutorial, candidates are teamed up with an experienced translator, who will guide them through the translation of 3 texts.
Learning a second language is just the beginning. Come discover why translation is often called the “third language”. This seminar will deal with a variety of topics, including the principles of translation, bilingualism, translation techniques, source text analysis, translation processes, translation tools, grammar and revision skills in virtually any language combination.
The concluding session will offer some insight into starting a business as a freelance translator. Participants will be allowed to develop their skills in language manipulation and cultural sensitivity, find out about various aspects of the field, learn what resources are available, and explore the possibilities of working as a professional translator.
